When I look at the list of Montag's released tracks (and where), I'll admit I have a hard time understanding how it all happened. Chance encounters had a lot to do with it, but there was also so much sheer luck along the way. Finishing each record was genuinely difficult for me. I think a lot of musicians go through that: you wear yourself out putting on the finishing touches, never fully satisfied with the result, often for lack of resources. But the pressure of reaching some "ultimate" outcome was probably less intense when it came to releasing Montag's music myself. I spent a lot of time designing my own covers, taking photos, putting them together, exploring different design options, printing mini-CD sleeves myself, cutting it all out with an X-Acto knife, sticking stickers onto the discs... Making music doesn't stop at composing. It was also about creating objects that reflected it. Of course, I had the help of a whole crowd of artists for the more official album covers: Pastille Rose, Emma Waltraud Howes, Pascal Grandmaison, Patrick Pellerin, Frédéric Bouchard, Curious Flux. There were also the photographers behind the promo photos: Jim Verburg, Heidi Zutter, Alejandro Santiago, among others. And finally, the video artists who accepted to create videos with hardly any budget : Jérémie Battaglia, Xavier Hamel, to name juste a few.. Montag was a solo project, but nothing is ever made entirely alone.

I'm especially grateful for the connections I built with artists from all over the world who asked me to remix their music, collaborate, or join them on tour. I'm thinking of Toog (who first opened the door for me with Trish Keenan of Broadcast), Amy Millan and Stars (some of my first musician friends in Montréal, who took me under their wing), M83 (who became friends back in the Gooom years), the whole Natacha's Recordings family, Zachary Gray, ISAN, Khonnor, Vitaminsforyou, Ghislain Poirier, Au Revoir Simone, Beach House (who became my labelmates on Carpark Records), Nicolas Saez (Anorak), Miracle Fortress, Leah Abramson, Andy Dixon, Ariel Engle, golf, Lymbic Systym, One A.M. Radio, I'm From Barcelona, Simon R. Tremblay (who I ended up collaborating way beyong Montag’s tracks on different contracts) and so many others... Then there are all the labels who released Montag's music. I have to thank Jean-Philippe Talaga for believing in me from the very start, before welcoming me into the Gooom Disques family; all the guys at Ai Records in the UK; Todd Hyman of Carpark Records (the label I was with the longest), who encouraged me so much; and Fuminori of Rallye Records in Japan, who gave me unforgettable adventures. The list goes on... Montag is stepping away, but the records — and traces of all these friendships — remain. Thankfully. And here's the (almost) complete list...
